About peppermint

Peppermint is a medicinal and spice plant from the mint genus. It is a cross - probably accidental - of Mentha aquatica and Mentha spicata, w obei Mentha spicata is in turn a cross of Mentha rotundifolia and Mentha longifolia. The nana mint originates from North Africa and is widely distributed, especially in Morocco. The Arabic word for mint is nana, which is why the mint species is also called nana mint. The plant grows between 30 and 90 centimeters tall, w obei it usually remains smaller in our climate.

Cultivation

Peppermint always originates from crops in temperate climates and often runs wild from crops, such as at Mitcham in Surrey, England, and in southern Germany. Significant crops are found in Michigan and New York, Spain, the Balkans, South America and Asia. For the sowing of peppermint a pre-cultivation in spring has proven to be successful. The seed should be only lightly covered. At temperatures around 18 °C, the mint will then germinate within 2 weeks.

Effect

The medicinal plant peppermint is used for digestive complaints, flatulence, biliousness and irritable bowel syndrome. Furthermore, it has a calming effect on tension headaches, colds and colds. Peppermint is also used for muscle and nerve pain.
